Ancram Fire Company was dispatched to a possible chimney fire on Route 22 by Boston Corners Road late Thursday evening. At approximately 19:30 members were told by 911 that the homeowner saw flames coming from the top of his chimney. Ancram Car 1 got on scene quickly followed by 79-20 and 79-31. Firefighters went to work raising ladders and removing contents of the fireplace. It was discovered that there was a smoldering blockage and with the use of some extinguishers and a long brush were able to stop it from getting worse. No fire extension into the building but damage to the flue and some mortar on the chimney was cracked. Please be very mindful of cleaning your chimney, build up of creosote can have devastating effects and also traffic on Route 22 is ordinarily pretty quick but if you see any type of emergency lighting, trucks, and members directing traffic be sure to slow down, move over and pay attention. |
